So today’s food review is about popcorn, but it’s tied into the movie-going experience while still maintaining the good time among friends. The Hollywood Theatre has been in operation for 73 years and while it’s well-maintained, it is certainly not to be confused with the monstrous 18 screen, 3 level theatres that we’re all accustomed to nowadays. And just so you know i’m not lying, I took a picture of the bathroom which pretty much sums up the classic decor.
Now on to the non-bathroom details of the theatre! It is located on 3123 West Broadway in Vancouver in an area called Kitsilano. The best part is you get 2 movies for the price of 1, with it costing $7 to get in! Take that Cineplex and Blockbuster! As soon as you walk in the theatre, you sense the age of it as it smells eerily familiar to your grandparents house. The popcorn is sold at the one and only concession counter and was reasonably priced at $4.50 for a large bag that is certainly big enough for two to share. As far as popcorn goes, it was pretty good, especially with the extra butter!
For the record, the movies I saw were “Whatever Works” with Larry David and directed by Woody Allen and “Away We Go” with John Krasinski (Jim from The Office) and Maya Rudolph from SNL. Both were good, Larry David was his usually Larry David self and so was Woody Allen, so if you like Curb, you’ll like this. “Away We Go” was a pleasant surprise and would highly recommend it.
It was the last night for these two movies, but now they are showing “Up” and “Earth” and I will definitely be going back to see them.
