About me

I’ve always been a great eater (if I do say so myself) but I’m now interested in the cooking and baking part of it too. What you’ll find here are recipes with soul and a story to go with it. Just as I enjoy the simple things in life, the same can be said about my taste in food. I love the creativity and art of Molecular Gastronomy and I can definitely appreciate a perfectly cooked sous-vide piece of lamb with a mint jelly foam, but I’d still take Shrimp & Grits nine times out of ten.

Cheesy Shrimp & Grits, Collard Greens and Hoppin' John's (Black-eyed peas & rice)

The idea behind Tastes Better With Friends came to me in Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium (of all places). A Dodgers baseball game was one of many stops during my 2009 summer road-trip through California and Oregon with some buddies and we found ourselves in the all-you-can-eat bleacher section.

It was a perfect summer evening at the ballpark and our attention was focused on the Dodger dogs, peanuts, nachos, Coke and beers rather than the game itself and it occurred to me that food simply “Tastes Better With Friends”.  I couldn’t determine how or why it tasted better, but among friends, the scenery, the laughs, it was just better!

Since that moment, this blog has been my home.  I can share my adventures, be it in the kitchen, travelling or simply writing about life as I see it. My blog is meant to be a comfortable and fun place where old and new friends can hopefully learn and be inspired.

It also tastes better in Maui!

Just like it’s easier to smile than to frown, it always Tastes Better With Friends!

Thanks for stopping by,

Ethan

    Hey Ethan,

Instead of searching for a new job, I have just spent the last 30 mins reading about your adventures in food. The other comments are correct – it is a cool blog. Have a great trip mate and I look forward to some posts from your travels.

  14. Ethan,
It was great to meet you at Teeter’s cottage. I love to talk to others who are passionate about food and drink and the memories that can be invoked by our experiences. I look forward to following your blog. As Jana said, it would be great to see you at the horseshoe tourney on the Saturday of the Labour Day weekend. All are always welcome!
